Summer Powwow 2009

WHEN: AUGUST 1st - 2nd 2009

WHERE: The Putnam Fish and Game Club, located at Stonebridge Road, Woodstock, Connecticut

TIME: Grand Entry will be at 12:00pm and the Powwow will last until Evening, Both Days

EVENTS:  This Powwow will be conducted as a Teaching Powwow, with both Men and Women various assorted dances being performed.  There will also be Children's dances, Story related dances, as well as Shared Stories about our ancestors, traditions, culture, and nature, along with other various assorted activies.

DINNER: This will be a Pot Luck held for all Tribal Members in attendance. Please bring a hot or cold dish to share.

VENDOR INFORMATION: All Vendor Types Welcome. A $25.00 fee covers both days.  Just show up and pay upon arrival.

HONORED GUEST SPEAKER: John O. Cech, Professor of English and Children's Literature and Director, Center for Children's Literature and Culture, The University of Florida.  Producer and Host of "Recess!" a daily Public Radio program about the cultures of childhood.  Currently entering its fourth year on the air for a national audience.  Recipient of the Chandler Award of Merit for Contributions to the Field of Children's Literature.

Professor Cech wrote several articles on and conducted several interviews with Princess Red Wing of Seven Crescents, Royal House of Pokanoket which he aired nationally on PBS stations.  He will be speaking about Native American culture and Princess Red Wing.
