A 1675 Battle That Is Still Being Contested Today?

Native American Participants in the Wheeler's Surpise Event

Come to a Wheeler's Surprise event on Saturday June 13, 2009, in New Braintree MA.  As part of next year's 350th celebration of the settlement of the Quaboag Plantation, the town of New Braintree's 350th Anniversary Committee will be holding a series of Wheeler's Surprise events on June 13.  This will include a re-enactment of the ambush, battle, and a talk by Robert W. Wilder on the ambush.  All events will be held in the town center, except for a bus ride to the re-enactment site.  At 6 p.m. at the Town Hall there will be a dinner, cash bar, silent auction, and a talk on King Philip's War by the author Michael Touglas.  NO TICKETS WILL BE SOLD AT THE DOOR; they will be available at Reed's Country Store, or by sending a check, payable to QHS350, to Quaboag 350th Committee, P.O. Box 112, New Braintree, MA 01531.  More information at:

This event will present a balanced view of these historic happenings and is sponsored in part by a grant from the Hardwick-New Braintree Cultural Council, a local agency supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.
